This week we have learned about the Titanic, the Panama Canal, Teddie Roosevelt, gravity, nouns verbs, dividing with remainders and flies. Wow it is a wide range.
We were all in tears while reading about the Titanic. What a tragic story. I think we all know the basic story but when we start reading the personal accounts it is heart breaking. At one point I had to hand the book over to Turkey Legs to read because I kept crying. He started reading and had to hand the book back to me for the same reason. Lizard legs commented that the story of the Titanic was "much sadder than I thought". Its a tough call sometimes what we should share with our children and what we should hold back until they are older. I was very comfortable with them learning about the Titanic, but it is the history that we are heading into that makes me cautious.
I found it interesting that the builders of the Titanic never said the ship was unsinkable but that it was "virtually unsinkable". I guess that could just be a matter of wording but history has a way of putting words in peoples mouths.
At co-op we worked on a wood model of the Titanic. Both boys enjoyed building it and painting it. We also did a science expirement about bulk heads using three 2 liter bottles.
