Week 7

I taught our Lower Grammar Co-op class this week. We were learning about the Klondike Gold Rush. We read a briefly about the Klondike Gold Rush from the NPS website. Then we mapped out the route that most stampeders used. We looked at pictures that showed a restaurant in the area, (it was only a small tent) some men looking for gold in a river, and also a list of the supplies they would need. We saw a picture of some of the gold found piled up on the dock in Seattle and the front page of a San Francisco newspaper with the headline "GOLD GOLD GOLD!"

We took all of those pictures and made a poster about the Klondike Gold Rush. The kids also designed their own front page of a newspaper about the gold. Most of their front pages depicted themselves finding lots and lots of gold :)
Then the real fun began. We combined with the Upper class and became stampeders in search of gold. We headed out into the green space behind the Commons and searched. Just like the real stampeders some found lots, some found just a bit, and some found none! We came back to class and designed our own gold coins.
Here is the LG class. Here are the stampeders!
Miners from the Klondike Gold Rush and a map of the routes they would take. One route could take up to two years.
The rest of our week was pretty typical. TL is working on a state notebook. He has been doing a little bit of it each week. LL will be starting a project on Lady Bugs. I am still looking for resources for this.

No Pictures Please How do you do your school work?
TL's science project this week was to build a lazy susan. He did a good job. We used it for dinner to put our taco condiments on. :)
Here is LL helping out by feeding FP while I am working with TL.

We now have a Tiger and a Bear living with us :)
That is our week. Looking forward to the next.
