Our School Room

I went through and decluttered and rearranged our school room this weekend. Honey hung up my white boards and helped move the furniture (thank you Honey :) ). So here are the pictures.

First though I realized as I was taking the pictures that our school room looks so neat and tidy and I didn't want to mislead anyone in to thinking I am a neat and tidy person. In fact I am a messy person :( and Honey is quite tidy (he never utters a word though!). I am working on this.

Once our school room was decluttered and rearranged Turkey Lips came in and uttered a huge sigh of relief and said "this is perfect for learning in!" So I get the hint :) Anyway the first two pictures I am posting show the mountain of laundry that I need to fold and the mountain of recylables that need to go out - in other words the trash. So you see you can't believe everything you see ;) Ask me to post pictures of our school room in a month...that will be the true test.

Goals

This school has started in a rush. I did not get all of the things accomplished that I wanted so now there is this feeling of being behind even though we just started. I do realize that I will probably never completely accomplish my to do list before each school year, but I feel like there are some important things that got skipped. Mainly goals for the year.

Don't worry I realize that these pictures have nothing to do with what I am posting about but they are just so darn funny :)

So back to goals. The number one goal we have for our children .... To be independent of us and Dependent on God. If our boys can comprehend their dependence on God it will set the course for the rest of their lives. Their dependence on God will do more to shape them than anything I can teach them. We can try and try to teach them good character qualities and we can discipline and instruct but without them seeing their need for and dependence on God it is all for not.

The second goal we have for our children is to be able to defend their faith in an informed and respectful way. Let me clarify the "respectful way". I am not saying they should hold back their beliefs because they might offend someone. Instead I mean that the love they have for people should so be evident it allows them to speak the truth without coming across as telling someone off. The motivation behind this goal is John 13:35

"By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

These first two goals are not easy because they feel abstract. How do you teach children to be dependent on God? How do you teach them to love each other? This is where it gets hard I think because we all know the answer. Really we can't teach them these things, we model them.

So I have to ask myself. ... Do I see my need for God? Do I see my dependence on Him? I'm quick to give a resounding yes..I know that I need God and that I am dependent on Him. I have to stop for minute though because deep down I know that there are things in my life that I want to handle for God. Then I have ask myself Do I love people? See these aren't easy goals mostly because they force me to look into my own life because my children can hear my words but they will be empty words unless they see my actions too.
